Be creative , be funny , sell more!

When it comes to selling stuff in WoW, most people just dump stuff on the AH and wait for it to sell. That works well usually, but there are some items that people will just buy alot faster (and more) when you can "sell" it to them.

With that I mean the advertising in the trade (or other larger) channels.

While ofcourse you use auctioneer with a snatchtool, it doenst mean everyone is. Searching every item you might want to buy takes ages. Some people will write some itemnames down or something like that, but most will just do it from the top of their heads. There is alot of thing YOU want to sell, that THEY dont think about.

For example (and I picked up the idea at another goldblog, completely blank on the name, will give credit when I remember):

- Rituals of the new moon

Its an offhand item that you can "use" and it will transform you into a wolf with about the same graphics as the shamanwolf, but then in 4 different colors.
Now most people in the game havent even heared about this item, but its funny and makes you look "cool".

You can advertise this item like:

"On AH Rituals of the new moon"

You might turn a head or two, but the masses wont even read it or click the item to see what it is.
Think about why people need to buy the item, what does it do for THEM?
On this one its easy, it makes you transform into a wolf and theres 4 colors to pick from.
So instead direct people to the purpose:

"On AH: Rituals of the new moon! Let your inner wolf free and become one!"

Maybe add something on the end for the 4 colors.

You will notice you will get alot more /w with "cool how much". Its new to people and YOU are bringing the fun to them.

This can also be done with "old" items. Selling rich purple silk shirts on the AH might make you sell a few, but you can change your act abit. Shirts is not something people will look for every day, but if you steer people to it they will atleast think about buying one. Any piece of "clothing" in WoW you can pretty much sell with the following:

"Spring is here! The new spring collection of [Rich purple silk shirt] and [Someotherstuff] is now on sale on the AH! Too casual? pick up a [Tuxedo pants][Tuxedo shirt]!"

Now you put something in the chat that people will read, either becouse its different or becouse its more fun to read then "shirt buy now".

Risk?

Dont ever overspam your items. People are not blind and they will not appreciate it when you go berserk in the chat channels. Dont forget that the lines you type are usually a bit longer and will most likely take up two or more lines in the chatframe. The last thing you want to do is put more then 2 of the same shout at a time in the tradechannel. You will overspam the chatframe and alot of people will just put you on ignore. Thats another few potential costumers down the drain...

What I like to do is say it once, do some auctioning, do some more auctioning, say it again, do a HC, say it again after.
This way you probably will attract a bunch of new people with it, while the "old" crowd doesnt notice you've said it before.

Also make sure you are not trying to mingle in an overcrowded market. If person X sees u chat in tradechannel with an item he is selling, he will most likely check the prices, relist and also chat something similar to you. The result is that you are not unique anymore, people will lose interest quickly.

Last piece of advice is that you have to keep your AH stock as unique as your messages. There is no point in throwing 50 purple silk shirts on there, keep it unique and special.

New patch comming up, problems?

Most people know by now what happens in the new patch (3.3.3). The most important changes are the new auctionhouse interface / options and the changes to Frozen orbs.

They can now be used as currency for eternals, frost lotusses and crusader/runed orbs.

Most moneymakers rushed to the frozen orbs market and bought everything in stock below 10g ~ (estimate).

I did the same thing ofcourse, buying up everything that came on the market. The patchnotes were pretty new and Im sure 95% of the people online at that point hadnt read them or heared about them yet, so I chose to try something.

I wanted to buy everything, relist it when the patch hit and make a profit. However if I bought everything on the AH the prices would automaticly inflate a little, making me less gold if I kept doing that.

I decided to gamble and buy 90% of the markets stock. Leaving a couple of the orbs there to not inflate the price, while I waited for more orbs to hit the AH. This worked pretty good, 24 more orbs of the unknowing were quickly bought by me. Then I made a mistake that cost me any more ez profit. I asked for stacks of frozen orbs in tradechat. This itself wasnt so bad, but someone replied in tradechat what the hell I needed all those orbs for. After that some people started the discussion about the new patch and how it would inflate the price alot. Damn, that sucked, now everyone knew. Quickly bought what was left and went on my daily heroic. When I came back about 30min later I checked the AH again for orbs.

50 orbs total, buyout on the cheapest was 29g... craaaap

Got too greedy and wasnt thinking. This was something I could have seen comming had I just thought about it for 2 more seconds.

I did manage to sell my stack of lotusses tho, for 110% value so that was pretty satisfying.

I really hope the new patch doesnt kill auctioneer or any of its functions. The snatchtool I love and I wouldnt leave home without my beancounter or appraiser. Guess we will just have to see how it turns out...

*fingerscrossed*

Welcome!

Welcome everyone to my blog!

Let me start writing about who I am and what I do in regards to WoW, so u get a clue of who you are dealing with.

I started playing the first day vanilla. Had fun and enjoyed it but got hacked the exact same day that TBC came out. Couldnt be bothered so i quit playing. Got back into it a few months after and got hooked again. When WotLK hit I stopped playing again since I was just too busy with work and such. A few months in (again) I picked it up again and here I am now.

I play on Zenedar EU horde side. There used to be a few RL people there I knew but they all quit or moved again. I enjoy the comfort of my main (tank) being in a big guilds altguild, where I help out where needed but dont get to do the really cool stuff (the big L for example).

However what I like to do most, and what you probably came here for, is making money!

I started with about 500g in the wallet at lvl80. I am now on 13k gold with playing about 2 hours a day.

My usual time on WoW looks like this:

- I login
- Check my mail , get the first batch of 50 out of the mail
- Scan the AH using auctioneer (ofc) while waiting for the rest of my mail to become available *
- Use the snatchtool to check my snatchlist-goodies
- Put more stuff on the AH from my mailbox / snatched mail
- /2 some different stuff (like the new moon wolfbook)

- Check if theres a raid going on that I can help in
- If no raid, I queu a random heroic for the badges, since Im a tank it instantly loads

* I cant do /reload, Im on a laptop and it dies when I try to do it :)

After the run, I check my mail again and relist what needs relisting. Then its usually late enough for me and I go to bed or watch some TV with my girlfriend.

Im by no means an expert in auctioning and I dont consider myself a big moneymaker. But I think for the people with little playtime a day I might be able to give out some advice.

Thats what I am going to try to do with my blog, see if I can give some hints and tips for the people who cant seem to get any further.

Hope you guys n gals will like the blog, feel free to comment on everything and leave suggestions!
